Foster Care

Four kittens representing Foster Care

Fostering an animal in need is a very rewarding experience. Homeward Pet’s foster care families provide temporary in-home care for needy dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

Animals are placed into foster care for a variety of reasons: puppies needing extra socialization; ‘bottle-feeding’ kittens; a dog recovering from surgery or a cat recovering from an illness. Or sometimes, we just need more space to help even more homeless animals at the shelter.

Fostering is a great way for families to become involved with Homeward Pet, especially those with children too young to become volunteers at the shelter.  As with our adoptions, we try to make the best match between the foster family and the animal needing in-home care, and every placement is subject to the foster family’s approval and availability.

If you’re interested in becoming a Homeward Pet foster family, please fill out our Volunteer Application.  You will then be invited to our General Orientation.
