Sponsor Spotlight: Martha Faulkner, RSVP Real Estate Broker

Martha Faulkner has been a valued supporter of Homeward Pet for over a decade in so many ways: Sunday morning dog walker, former President of the Board of Directors, Development Committee Member, donor, and adopter. Whatever the role is, Martha’s probably done it!

Not only is Martha a passionate animal lover, she’s also a successful, client-focused real estate broker. By combining her two passions of real estate and animal rescue, Martha designed her business model so she could help animals in need: she donates 10% of her commission to the animal rescue of her client’s choice, including Homeward Pet.

If you’re in the market for a new home, Martha has a few tips to share with you:

1. Get pre-approved for a mortgage before you start looking. Not only will this speed along the process when you make an offer, it will also give you a defined budget when you’re searching.
2. Make a list of “must haves” and “nice-to-haves,” and stick to it. No home will have absolutely everything you need, so having an idea of what’s most important in your future home will help you make the right decision for lasting happiness.
3. Test drive the neighborhood before committing. The house itself isn’t the only
important part of your dream home; you should also like the surrounding neighborhood. I recommend spending some time getting to know local businesses, the school district, and other amenities before committing to a home.
4. Pick a home style you love. Focusing on one style of home that fits your lifestyle can make the house search more manageable. lnstead of touring 12 so-so homes, you can spend more time on the 3 really great ones that fit your lifestyle best!
5. Document, document, document! lt can be hard to keep every home straight,
especially if your search goes on for a few months. Keep your phone or camera handy so you can keep the layout and amenities fresh in your mind as you review homes you’ve visited. Keep them organized in a separate folder for each home you visit for easy reference!

Meet Our Overlooked Dogs

Our Overlooked Dogs are ready to meet you! These wonderful ladies have been with us for several months, and we’re hoping they’ll find their perfect homes soon!

DIVA
Diva can be a snuggly, lap-loving, face-licking little princess…or not. When she decides she likes you, she LOVES you. She’ll be in your lap soaking up attention. But if you don’t make her list of favorite people (and she’s quick to judge!), watch out for your fingers and toes, as little miss Diva is not shy about expressing herself. Some might say that it’s evil the way she lures you in with her cute underbite or her love of squeaky toys and sticks (which she carries with great pride on her walks). And some say that I’m just jealous that I’m not in Diva’s inner circle. But, hey, maybe you’ll be invited to be friends with this Diva.

Because she can be particular about her company and handling, Diva would love an adult-only home who understand that Diva is well-named. She would be very happy as the only dog in a home and the center of all of your adoration. Diva can be bossy with other dogs (what a surprise!), but has lived with cats before. She doesn’t always like sharing her people or her toys with others, but loves toys and walks and outdoor adventures and learning new tricks.

Come on in and find out if Diva approves of you.

BONNIE

NOW HIRING! In search of a full-time human to provide lots and lots of belly rubs to Bonnie. Your other duties will include: walking her, feeding her, playing with her, and of course snuggling! Sounds pretty easy, right? Your hand may get tired from all the belly rubs, but you will build up your endurance in no time! Your compensation will be nose kisses and companionship. This job will be fun and rewarding. Submit your application today!

Bonnie is a 10-year-young American Bulldog/Lab mix with a huge grin and an even bigger heart. All the love you give her will be given right back to you, plus some! Bonnie is an awesome hiker and loves going on adventures. But she’s really good at snuggling and snoozing too. Bonnie would like to be the queen of her castle and be the only furry family member. She’s also looking for an adult only home and no apartments or condos.

REBECCA

Let me tell you about my friend Rebecca. I always tell people that Rebecca is made of sunshine. I absolutely can’t wait to see that sweet face in her kennel when I go in to walk her. Her tail starts wagging and I just feel any stress from the day melt away. She’s a total cuddle-muffin once she gets to know you. We’re talking full-on marshmallow lap dog. Her foster dad has even described her as the cuddliest dog he’s ever met – and he’s met a lot of dogs!

Rebecca will thrive in a home that can offer her consistency, and she adapts easily to routines: play time, walk time, meal time, sleep time, and her favorite of all times, snuggle time! She is crate trained and house trained, and not destructive when left alone. She’s not the biggest fan of the rain, but if it means going for a walk and spending quality time with her person, she’s in! Rebecca needs an adult-only home with no other pets so she can soak up all of your love, affection and attention. Rebecca sounds pretty perfect, right? We love her so much here, but we know that there’s so much more out there for her. She’s looking for someone special – is it you?

Visit us from 12 pm – 6 pm, Wednesday through Sunday, to meet these wonderful pets!
