Fostering – A Family Affair

For three and a half years, Dani and her family have been opening their home and hearts to help animals in need. Despite having two dogs and three cats of their own, Dani and her family still have a desire to help homeless animals, and it was this passion that brought them to Homeward Pet’s foster program in 2012.
They like to take care of the littlest ones the most, and seem to have an endless supply of energy and compassion, sometimes picking up a puppy to foster on the same day they drop off a litter of kittens to be spayed or neutered and ready for adoption!
Fostering is a family affair at Dani’s house. “I have three kids and they are very helpful, and always get excited when we get new foster animals. Cleanup isn’t a favorite of theirs (haha!), but fostering animals makes life in our house fun and rewarding,” she observes, “It’s a great learning experience for my kids, too.” The family also gets help from their Aussie Shepherd, who gently herds litters of kittens to keep them together.
Last year, Dani’s family got bigger when they adopted one of their foster kittens, Monkey. But it was a dog named Boo that gave Dani and her family their most memorable foster experience. “Boo needed socialization and would hide under my feet all the time because she was afraid of everyone else. After three weeks, she had formed a pack with my dogs and it was like she was a whole new dog. It was hard for us to give her back because my family, two and four-legged, had taught her to trust other people and animals.”
Thank you, Dani, and your whole family. You are truly Homeward Heroes!
