A Homeward Pet volunteer bought a scratcher house for our very active cat Cinnamon Bun. He is digging it!
We’re incredibly fortunate to have Mikkel Becker on the Homeward Pet team! As a certified dog and cat trainer, co-author of five books in the “Ultimate Pet Lover” series, and the resident trainer for Vetstreet.com. Mikkel is also an important part of our Adopter Support program. As Homeward Pet’s dog and cat behavior consultant, Mikkel helps our adopters solve behavior issues. Every month, Mikkel donates her time and expertise to provide one-on-one behavior consultations (by appointment) with our adopters and their newly adopted cat or dog, assessing each animal, reviewing the factors that can lead to specific behaviors, and providing a training and behavior plan moving forward.
Mikkel recently spoke on an online forum for dogs – ‘The Healthy Happy Dog Summit’ and chose Homeward Pet to be affiliated with and for donations to go to. You can register for this Summit, which will train YOU to provide the happiest, healthiest life possible for your pup! Now “sit” and learn from 25+ of the world’s experts on dog health! It’s been pure FANdemonium at Homeward Pet this month thanks to amazing volunteer and 12th WoMAN, Chris Yates. As a behavior team member and clinic volunteer, Chris knows in order for our shelter animals’ personalities to shine through, you’ve got to be in it to win it! For October’s Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog month, Chris made more than 50 Seahawks bandannas in assorted sizes to celebrate our 12th Man’s Best Friend adoption event. Thanks Chris for helping to bring the Seahawks spirit to Homeward Pet!
Homeward Pet is fortunate to have more than 350 volunteers committed to our mission to give homeless animals a second chance. If you’d like to join the ranks of our dedicated volunteers and pursue your passion for animals, click here for more information.
Hosting or organizing your own fundraising event is an outstanding way to raise funds for homeless animals in your community AND have fun with friends and family.
Recently, a Homeward Pet supporter hosted a “Classics & Vine” wine tasting event in support of our Whoopi’s Fund Special Needs animals. The event was a huge success, raising more than $4,500 dollars to help cover medical costs of animals in our care.
Events like “Classics & Vine” allow Homeward Pet to provide lifesaving care for our deserving animals. If you would like to learn how you can make a difference for the dogs and cats of Homeward Pet by hosting a fundraising event, contact Allison, Events Coordinator as for more information.
Thanks to all that attended “Classics & Vine” to make it such a rousing success!

Halloween can be a stressful, and even potentially dangerous, time for your cat or dog. And we’re not just talking about the ghosts and goblins. Candy, decorations and dressing up can all be harmful to your pet. But keeping your pets safe on Halloween doesn’t have to be scary. Read our Tips for a Pet-Safe Halloween” in the Behavior & Health Tips section of our Resources page for ways to make this a safe, fun time of year for your four-legged fiend…er…friend.
To celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, Homeward Pet has partnered with the animal lovers at Wag!, the new dog-walking on demand company, to provide every one of our dog adopters a Wag! swag bag and 10 FREE dog walks (a $200 value), all month long! Using the downloadable Wag! app, you can get a dog-walker instantly – like the Uber of dog-walking! – or schedule a walker on a recurring basis. Wag! allows you to track your dog’s walk live on a GPS map, and you’ll get an emailed report card after every walk. All of their walkers are screened, vetted and Wag! certified, bonded and insured, and you can choose your walker from online profiles and reviews, and even meet them before they take care of your precious pooch.
Seattle is the third Wag! city (after New York and LA), and they’ve already got walkers downtown, Ballard, Capitol Hill, Lake Union, Belltown, West Seattle and North Seattle, and soon in Bellevue, Lake Forest Park and Shoreline.
Come to Homeward Pet this month to meet your 12th Man’s Best Friend, and get 10 free walks from Wag! with your dog adoption.
I just wanted to send a quick update, Helen & Stevie (now Elle and Malcolm) are doing well in their new home. They are playful and snuggly, and getting along just fine with their new dog friends. Malcolm is already running the house and Elle has found her favorite spot on my lap. Thank you again for bringing them into our home. We couldn’t be happier.
All my best,
Brandi, Willie and Gracie (their new basset brother and sister)
I adopted Charley (he was called Lucky at the shelter) in June and it honestly was the best decision I ever made! He and I go everywhere together and he gets me up and out of the house whenever I am feeling lazy. I was the type of person that was very hesitant to actually adopt due to the fact that I didn’t think I’d have time for the responsibility, but it’s really easy to blend having a dog into your life! He is very well loved and fully a part of my family 🙂 -Brittany
