Summer is here early!  Help keep your four legged furry friends safe with our Hot Weather Tips.

Summer Family FUNdraising

There are so many ways to make a difference in the lives of animals this summer. If you and your family are looking for an exciting way to put the “fun” in fundraiser, here are six easy ways to have a great time and support Homeward Pet at the same time.

Smoothie Stand  A healthy and yummy twist on the tired ol’ lemonade stand. All you need is a blender, an extension cord, some delicious summer fruit, and some ice. Here are some recipes to try. Make sure to have a bowl of water out for the pups!

Working at the Car Wash  Ask your local gas station or coordinate with friends and family to wash cars in a high traffic location for donations.

From Trash to Treasure  Collect gently used items to be sold at a yard sale. Proceeds from the yard sale can go towards helping cats and dogs find their forever homes.

Doggie Wash – Dog owners love to have a clean furry companion. You will need a large space with access to warm water. Sell refreshments to dog owners and end the bath with a treat. Make sure you are exercising safe handling guidelines!

Pool Party Throw a pool party and charge for admission or ask guests to bring canned dog or cat food from the Homeward Pet Shelter Essentials List. Don’t have a pool? You can do a slip ‘n slide with sheeting from the nearest hardware store.

Sports/Games Tournament – Grab neighbors and friends and put together a sports or games tournament. Everyone loves a good dose of dodgeball, volleyball, badminton, kickball, or board games. Entry fees for the tournament can be donated to Homeward Pet.

However you choose to give back this summer, the animals at Homeward Pet are so thankful for your support. Your dedication is what strengthens our commitment to our mission to give homeless cats and dogs a second chance.

Happy Tail – Phil!

Thank you for matching me up with Phil!  He has been the best little companion for me, and has become buddies with my granddaughter, and the neighbor’s dog!  After adopting Phil, I found out that one of my friends from Yakima was his foster mom, which made our connection even stronger.  My husband and I lived in Yakima for 30 years, where we raised our 3 kids.  Unfortunately, my husband passed away 4 years ago, but I now feel a special bond with Phil.  “Who saved who?”  I think we saved each other!!

I will continue to spread the word about Homeward Pet, and continue to support you with donations.

Happy Tail – Lexie!

Lexie is a bit of an attention hog!  If you are petting Amy she has no qualms about butting right in.  It’s really funny.  She is starting to play with toys on her own. As for treats and chews she tries to hide them around the house when she is done with them (so careful where you sit)!  Lexie really loves her walks and car rides.

As for her and Amy, they are getting closer all the time.  Amy no longer walks away the moment Lexie comes along.  If she is on the bed instead of leaving she now stays, even when it comes to tummy rub time she is in there side by side with Lexie.  The odd time she even forgets herself and pounces a bit.  It won’t be long and they will be playing.  I think Lexie is bringing the puppy back out in Amy.  Speaking of puppy…are you certain Lexie is a old as you say?  She acts so much like a crazy little puppy! 🙂

After all is said I think that Lexie is the perfect match for Amy (and us).  Thank you for making it happen.

HPAC Staffer Celebrates 12 Years of Service!

Congratulations to Homeward Pet staff member, Laurel, who has been with us for over 12 years! In addition to helping adopters find their perfect match as an adoption counselor, Laurel is our resident cat expert and coordinates all of our cat and kitten foster care…. which keeps her more than busy.

Homeward Pet was in Wolverine Country!

The students at Wellington Elementary have chosen Homeward Pet as a beneficiary of their Helping Hands program for 5 years and counting! The kids made treats and toys for our animals right before our eyes. We are forever grateful for your continued generosity and inspired by the great example you set for kids in our community.
