Cat Care
This position is great for cat lovers who aren't afraid to get their
hands dirty. It is ideal for anyone
interested in cat psychology or animal shelter work.
DESCRIPTION
The role of the Cat Care volunteer
is to help keep our cats healthy and happy in a clean, safe environment until
they are adopted. The cats in our adoption center can be highly stressed, and this
position has the opportunity to make their time in our care more comfortable.
This position has high animal contact (cats only). This position requires
repetitive bending and lifting, and volunteers are exposed to various cleaning
agents. Volunteers must be able to
practice safe animal handling, work independently and be receptive to feedback
from staff. HPAC relies on volunteers to clean the cat cages in the adoption
room or Clinic each morning and evening, so dependability is essential.
Duties include:
·
Socializing and comforting the cats
·
Monitoring behavior and medical needs on a daily
log
·
Cleaning each cage in the cat room daily
·
Preparing and distributing appropriate food for
cats and kittens
·
Stocking the adoption room with supplies
·
Washing dishes
·
Scrubbing litter pans
·
Washing, drying and folding laundry
·
Sweeping and mopping floors
·
Additional projects as needed.
TIME COMMITMENT
Volunteers are scheduled for the
same 2-3 hour shift each week. There is
a 3 month minimum weekly commitment. For
the proper care of the cats, dependability is essential.
SHIFTS
Volunteers help
everyday of the year from 9am-9pm.
TRAINING REQUIRED
All volunteers must attend a
volunteer orientation and a hands-on training before starting their position.
The orientation covers each of the volunteer positions at Homeward Pet in
detail and explains the overall objectives of HPAC as an organization. HPAC trains all volunteers. No previous experience is necessary.
